Anaplasma spp. and Babesia spp. are tick-transmitted pathogenic protozoa that cause economic losses in Brazilian livestock industry. Because of the role of ticks in the transmission of these protozoans, the objective of this work was to determine the prevalence and diversity of these pathogens and their associated tick vectors in goats from a region of the southeastern Brazilian State of Minas Gerais. Blood samples were collected from 2,862 goats to determine the prevalence of anaplasmosis and babesiosis and the ticks found attached to them. Anaplasma spp. and Babesia spp. DNA were detected in 23.5% and 4.6% of the goats, respectively. Of the 1,037 ticks that were collected, 70.2% were Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato, and the remaining 29.8% were Amblyomma sculptum. Tick species pools were composed of one or two species. B. caballi was the most prevalent parasite (21.6% of the sampled animals). The Brazilian goat, Capra hircus, and the lone-star tick, R. sanguineus s.l., are the only known hosts of A. marginale, B. caballi, and B. bigemina, respectively. The other 22 tick species were found in this study, although the molecular characterization was not performed. The results presented here suggest that goats may be important reservoirs for some of these protozoa in Brazil. However, further investigation is required to determine the role of goats in the epidemiology of these protozoans in Brazil.Joe,
I think you have an EOL problem. When I enter the counterparty name "Inyura
(Canada)" in the address section of my e-mail, the application crashes.
The same thing happens when I enter "Ossia (US)" in the address section.
I'm attaching the document.
